ELMI 2009
Conference Aims ELMI was created in
2001 to establish a unique communication network
between European scientists working in the field
of light microscopy and the manufacturers of
their equipment.
The conference aims to promote biological
imaging as a fundamental tool for basic and
applied research in the life science field. It
will assist scientists working in the field of
life science to fully exploit the power of
biological imaging by improving the transfer of
knowledge. It will promote awareness of the
potentials of modern imaging techniques for
biotechnology with a particular emphasis on
pharmaceutical applications.
A Small Symposium on the
Cytoskeleton
This year’s meeting will be dedicated in part to
the work of J. Victor Small, a founding member
of ELMI and a pioneer in the use of light
microscopy, especially correlated with electron
microscopy, to study the dynamics of living
cells. Speakers will include past and present
collaborators such as Yu-Li Wang (Carnegie
Mellon), Benny Geiger (Weizmann Institute), and
Alan Hall (Sloan-Kettering), in addition to many
former lab members including Rob Cross (Marie
Curie Cancer Research Institute), Dieter Fürst
(University of Bonn), Elisabeth Ehler, Mario
Gimona, Klemens Rottner and Irina Kaverina (Vanderbuilt
University). This “Small Symposium” will
emphasize the use of imaging techniques in the
study of cytoskeleton dynamics.
